| Since the failure of Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2007 Republican members of Congress have focused more on enforcement. Recent bills do not seek to remedy the problems with the current immigration system or to provide legal opportunities for immigrants to come here and work or join their families.
The SAVE Act or Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement H.R. 4088, was introduced by representatives Heath Shuler (D-NC), and (among others), Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO). S. 2368, introduced by Senators Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA), and S. 2366, introduced by Senator David Vitter (R-LA).
This bill includes measures that would increase border enforcement, mandate the use of the government's E-Verify worker verification database, increase the amount of immigration prison space and increase the number of interior enforcement agents. QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Test
Immigrants who received the BCG vaccine in their home country consistently test positive on TB tests and are required to get x-rays and in some cases are asked to go on a course of drugs. There is now a new test that may be of assistance in this. It is recommended for immigrants who have had the BCG. More information can be found on the CDC website.
